Well, thank you, on both counts!

I'll dig into the forum for posts on the valves. You're right, there is probably a way to lap them in without pulling the cam out. I hope!

I would really think about tearing that head down all the way if I were you . At this point the motor is out of the bike and the head is off. If you have ANY sign of blasting beads you can see I can assure you there are many more still there that you cannot see. If you are cruising along this coming summer and some of those nasty little critters should come loose (and they will) it will have disaster written all over it.
AS far as lapping the valves to get them to seal I am sure it would help. However my bike was running fine when I tore it down but when I tore the head down I was really surprised how bad the valve seats were. While lapping them would have given me a seal it would have been a short time and I would have had it apart again. SOOOO I suggest tear it down do it right this time and enjoy the hell out of the bike instead of being frustrated. I took my head to a local small engine shop and the did the valve and seats for a few beers and a $20.00 bill.

By the way completely dissasembled heads clean up well in the dishwasher (as long as significant other doesnt catch you )

I had actually thought it over last night, my (feeble) mind clear of the frustration, and I am going to do exactly that. I had a read a thread where LM offered that he did work on the heads, at one time, and I may ask him if he can do this one. My issue would be with the shipping, the thing is heavy!

I'm the SO, but still - no dishwasher ;) Good idea, though!

Sending the head to Ed (LM) is the best idea. You will get it back and just bolt it on. As far as the freight I really don't think its all that bad.

I had a nice talk with LM yesterday (it's always good to talk with him!). I'll be sending the head his way early next month.

In the mean time, I should shift concentrations. There is a lot to do!
