Well, as promised, not much progress. I have been finishing off my new assembly area and have collected all of the parts together for the engine build. It's great to have a tidy space with good light.

I have managed to find an undamaged early "8-hole" barrel to which I fitted a set of NOS STD liners. Absolutely no fin damage or joint face scores on this barrel. The head is the one I got from Ed Moore and this will need a little bit of work on the valve seats, the joint faces and the bearing lands.

The crankcases look good but they will be fully checked with a steel rule to make sure all of the faces are good.

This burr on the primary drive side is typical of the damage that happens to 50 year old aluminium cases. This will be dressed out with a large flat file after removing that knock pin.

The crankshaft looks good with no bearing play. Just to be safe though, I will get it stripped and cleaned.

I may even have time to do a bit of assembly this weekend.

A clean, organized and light working place is top priority when doing engines indeed.

Love that workspace, Jensen! I need to get all of my tools mounted like yours. That's a really good use of space. The stereo system is pretty essential, isn't it?

Yes, I have a few 8-hole barrels, too. I have a spare 8-hole barrel for my 1960 C77 now, as well.

I've got a couple of big business trips coming up before Christmas so assembly of this motor may have to wait until January.

Hi,

Well, as you know cleaning is the most time consuming, as I clean every part attentively, it can be done with a little music at the background, and sometimes a glass of red wine.

My area is entirely separate from the rest of my workshop and there will be no vise and no cleaning in this space. It is just for assembly. One day I plan to build an underground workshop concealed under my front lawn. That may have to wait until I retire.... :-)

Great to see your working environment. Maybe we should start a thread to see how everyone works?

I have no problem with you posting here. It's all very interesting. My comment about people's workshops was just a suggestion that we could have a whole thread on that subject too. Please don't delete any of your contributions. I (and everyone else) likes to read about each other's exploits.
