Cool, Thanks for that info HT. I will change the seat mount and stand bracket to black. So I am correct that the steering top plate seen in the center of the photo should match the frame?

Bob, I am not sure about that one. The 2 original paint white bikes I had I didn't remove the front end. I imagine your piece is original to your bike and if there is no white paint under the black then I would venture a guess that it was black.

That's the funny thing, HT. See, the front fender and rear fender have white, but there's no sign of white anywhere else on any part. I think someone had the front and rear fenders replaced and the donor was white, but the frame and other parts are black all the way down. (See previous photo of frame with the white on the rear. notice how the white part stops abruptly at the seam?) One of the previous owners was lazy and poorly masked the aluminum and chrome parts and rattle-canned the fenders black. Anyway, I'll probably make the steering plate white.

Hi Bob - Looks like you're making great progress! The heli-coil repair looks good and I'm sure it will work fine.

On the painted aluminum parts, I've tried a bunch of different paints and I would suggest VHT SP127 Universal Aluminum. It's a good match to the original color, but unlike many of the others, it is fuel resistant after you bake it on at 200F for 20 minutes. You can do it safely in your oven, there are no fumes. There are instructions on the back of the can. Also, that steering head plate should be the frame color.

Funny to think how much all these parts--cleaned, de-rusted & buffed and in perfectly usable condition--would be worth on eBay... And this pic only shows the small parts (sub-assemblies in labeled Zip-loc baggies within clear plastic organic salad containers organized by functional area). Other parts are stashed around the place wherever I can find a spot. I can't wait to get the bike re-coated so I can put them all back in place. Cuz it's not about the money, dammit!
