I was told with the mileage on my bike to EXPECT wear in the transmission. Specifically, that bushing and the kick start pawl. I haven't removed the pawl yet, but the bushing (initially looking good), after measuring, is worn out! If my bike is any indication, while you have your bike apart, it's only about an hour more work to split the cases. I'd not hesitate to do it!Solomoriah wrote:Hmm. Your original posted pictures show 18182 miles on the odometer; my Dream has over 19,000 miles. So I suppose I'm looking at some transmission work as well...
Jensey, I just "eyeballed", I haven't measured anything (except the bushing, at HT's behest). I'd read quite about about wear areas in the gearbox, and none were immediately obvious. The bike always shifted well, and that caused me to relax a little bit when I was inspecting the gears. You're totally right, the oil sure makes things look shiny. Well, that new trans is going in the cases. Period!
