Many compliments from passers by when we were parked. Several turning heads while we rode. It's fun! We're gonna take it out again tomorrow and then during the week, I'll re-torque the head. If that fails, I'll put on a new thicker gasket.

Thank you all for the compliments!

It's looking good, running well, and I think I've stopped the seepage. We'll see...

So now we've reached the place where we realize that the bike can still be "better," as in more correct, in terms of possibly taking it to a few concours events to see if we can win any awards. So this thread will become mostly how to make small improvements to our Dream to bring it closer to say, a Quail-level machine. Of course we'd be shooting for The Quail 2015, not this year! :-) In the end if it means that in order to get 100 points at Dana Point or The Quail we have to get it repainted a more proper shade of white, well, we'll deal with that then...

So I will be posting pics and asking questions about what is "correct" and hope I can get some honest guidance and advice (ie: don't sugar coat it) on how to make our Dream the best it can be. But also be aware that this is still a "rider" and won't be a garage queen. Once we're convinced it's going to continue to be reliable, and my wife is confident enough, she'll be riding it 20 miles to work on good-weather days.

I already have a list of things that I know will be standing in the way of a "perfect" score for our restoration and which I will try, over time, to remedy. I will be introducing those here in whatever order I feel like tackling them. And I will begin on my next post, presently. If I don't get enough visibility in this thread for any particular issue, I'll post it in the relevant-topic forums, but I'll start here to have a central place for discussion among interested parties.

I've already determined that the oil filter cover should not have paint in the Honda lettering, so I removed it and it looks lovely. But at the back of the bike, in the letters on the caps on the rear fender braces, there are some remnants of paint. I've looked at many pictures and see many bikes with black paint in those letters. Our bike did have paint in them too, but it's partly removed from my polishing on the aluminum.

Should I remove this paint, or should I re-apply some to make it whole again?

Bob - You've caught it, and it sounds like a bad case... All seriousness aside, I don't believe there should be paint in there. I've seen some in pretty pristine condition, and they've been blank like the oil filter cover. But the final determination is always... CMSNL pictures ->
