CL77 Ground wire again?

Post by Hank Dymale » Sun May 15, 2016 10:36 am

I am in the final stages of completing my '67 CL rebuild. Could someone post a picture of the original routing path of the ground wire from the battery. I have searched numerous posts, but can't find a decent picture and the bends in my grounding cable don't seem to match the numerous verbal explanations in this forum. I apologize for being stupid, but as they say "a picture is worth a thousand words".

Behind the left side rear mounting bolt is a slot on the rear of the frame (above the swing arm bolt) and that is where the cable goes to the inside of the rear mounting bolt. ....................lm

Question.
You say 1967 CL77.
I don't see a 1967 frame and many other parts.
Center stand and pegs should be frame red.
Where is the rear brake light switch?
Looks to me like you have several parts from a CL72. ....................lm

The bike is registered as a 1967, but the wire harness is labelled 1965. Go figure. My older brother ran it for a short time back in the early '70's before he decided to tear it down to the last nut and bolt (burning oil he said). It had been stored in various garages around the Albuquerque area for the last 45 years. I got it back recently and decided to get it going again. I am only the second owner of this bike that I purchased nearly new back in '69 or '70. The black center stand and pegs are original to the bike. At the time the picture was taken, the newly purchased brake switch had not been installed. You guys are very observant.

Does the battery cable run along the back side of the left air cleaner before curving up to the battery terminal?

Thanks for all of your help.

LM ---You seem to have a wealth of information on 305's. Maybe you would be able to date the manufacture year of my CL. The engine is VIN # CL77E-1031894 while the frame is labelled VIN# CL77-1031902. I would appreciate any information you could contribute to my project.

The numbers you give show a 1966 issue to me.
Frame parts are correct for that year but the tappet covers are for the DREAM engines.
The harness number is usually the year it is made but not the year it was installed on the bike.
