Stator testingStator testingMy 1966 Superhawk is not charging, voltage drops with increasing RPM'S. The battery is good and fully charged. There is proper VAC between the three wires from the stator. The wires don't seem to ohm out right. My question is, if the stator output is at 40-50 vac at 4000 rpm do the ohm checks matter?

Cleg I don't know offhand what the resistance should be, but 40-50vac seems more than enough from the unloaded stator. Did you disconnect the stator wires before you probed it or is it still plugged in? If you got that many volts with it connected sounds like maybe the rectifier is open, ungrounded, or there is some problem with the associated wires. With respect to the common brown wire, the yellow wire should make the lowest voltage, the pink wire more voltage, and the yellow and pink connected together should make the most. Don't worry about the voltage between the yellow and pink as it shouldn't matter. Also under no circumstances should the stator be grounded. I hope this helps.
When testing the actual stator are you unplugging the bullet connectors and checking between the yellow and brown wires?Just removed mine and swapped it out with a cleaner looking one I had due to it being soaked with oil due to seal leaking.Ohmed it out and that seems ok, but unsure where to measure the 30-40V.thanks
Test each wire to each other for resistance which will be near the same numbers for each.
Then test one to the case If no continuity then you have a good stator. .................lm
