battery charging

Post by joeweir1 » Sat Mar 20, 2010 8:37 pm

Feel dumb asking this but, would charging my battery on 6 volt setting hurt my battery at all?I accidently bumped the switch from 12v to 6 volt in the process of charging and did not see it till I checked to see the full charge light was on much later.joe

Joe, I must admit, I've done ythe same thing, and no negative effect. Much better than going the other way, 12v on a 6v battery!

No, I won't hurt it. It won't charge, but no damage done.

thanks. The full charge light was on when I discovered it, but then I did hook it back up and it did take awhile for it to actually charge.

Hi,

It depends on the charger. When it's current driven, there will be no damage and the battery will charge, only slower. If it's a voltage driven, the battery wil not charge, and there's a change for damage of the charger (not the battery).

If it's a modern computerised charger, it depends on the brand or / and type if damage will occur.

One should always include the "snowball's chance in hell" possibility just in case the person in question is still not confused.
