Have not yet had good luck with re-zinking hardware. The stuff comes back very tender and I have had to use paper towel bits to keep the wrench from leaving bare spots.
When it came to restoring my CB77 hardware I just de-rusted it all myself in vinegar and painted it all with silver exhaust paint. looks just like zink and actually stands up better to wrenches.
Any one ever try the cadnium plate that is supposed to look like bright zink but actually be durable?
Re-zink = tenderBoth of those materials is 'softer' than the parent steel but both provide galvanic protection so that even if they are scratched they will protect the underlying material from corrosion. Paint, however tough, will not provide galvanic protection.
