respoke wheels

does anybody have any idea what it cost to have new rims spoked? just lookin to the future and about what kind of money we are talkin. thanks

Spoke sets can be bought fairly readily on Ebay, and I respoked them myself. The knowledge is probably cheaper, but I've got lots of wheelbuilding experience from bicycles. <br /><br /> They're very similar, but motorcycle rims are far stiffer, so trueing( making sure the rim is straight) isn't as big a deal as is centering the rim. <br /><br /> If you are using the stock rim and spoke set specific for the hub and rim, you are fine. I wanted to put some dream rims back togther after tearing them down to clean. Been reading up on web sites for pointers. Any help would be appreciated. Joe

I was lucky enough to get 2 brand new NOS (still in the original paper wrappers) from Ohio Cycle last summer. I had the old rims broken down and hubs relaced onto the new rims. The spokes, tire mounting and labor all came to $391.

ouch!! More than I can afford.I actually put a front and rear back together myself and trued the back best I could and am running it now and the extra front I made I will have to take to a shop to get trued.Joe

i got the front wheel rechromed for $150.00 -cleaned up the original spokes to look like new, relaced the wheel myself(using an old wheel for a guide) and finally, got my local custom bike shop to true up my efforts for $50.00

Both of you gentlemen are braver and more patient than me! My hat is off to you for doing this yourself. Although I am very mechanically able, this is one thing I never was able to master.
