Rim Powdercoating

The rims on my 1964 CA77 are trashed; after much contemplation, I have pretty much decided to go with powdercoating them a bright, almost chrome-like powdercoat from Powder Buy The Pound. My question is, what do I have to do to pre-treat them? The chrome is flaking off, and they're pitted and VERY rusty - would just bead-blasting them and then powder coating them work, or do they have to be dipped to ensure a proper adhesion?

John, sandblasting is usually all that is required for prep and depending on how deep the pitting goes it may take a few coats to fill them in for a decent finish. Do you have an S90 that I worked on a while back when you lived in Atlanta? Buck

I wopuldn't put flaking chrome parts in a bead blaster! It will plug up the air passages . Sand blasting and sanding out to do the trick.

Grit blast
Powder primer
Sand to remove pits
Chrome powder ten you must clear it to last..
Bad part is te clear really knocks the chrome look down..
