Krylon dull aluminum heat/fuel resistance

Post by philrock » Sat Nov 02, 2019 11:44 am

I'm getting ready to repaint the painted engine parts on my CB77. As I look through the posts on this forum, I don't see much mention of fuel or heat resistance.

To me, fuel resistance is mandatory - a few drops of gas ruined the paint on my left crankcase cover.

I'm not sure how important heat resistance is. My understanding is that engine oil should not get much over 260 degrees F. The left crankcase cover is in direct contact with the oil, so its inside surface would be at about the oil temperature, and the outside surface, where the paint is, would be somewhat cooler.

I have seen that Krylon Dull Aluminum is a very good color match - but will it stand up to the heat? - and will it stand up to gasoline?

In the UK I use a heat and fuel proof silver from our biggest motor parts company, Halfords.

It works well on engine covers. no trouble with heat or fuel.

How well does the Halford's color match the original Honda color?

Is this the paint you use: https://www.halfords.com/motoring/paint ... aint-500ml ?

If not, could you post a link or a part number for the one you use?

I have a couple of covers - one with this paint and the other a NOS cover.

This is NOS

And this is the Halfords paint. Who knows what it will look like in 50 years....
