Honda Red Paint - PLEASE HELP!

Post by Joshes » Tue Mar 18, 2008 1:14 am

Hi All,

I'm trying to find the correct Red paint for my 1962 CB77. I have found the following:
a. Honda Candytone Rubyred R-4C - 08701-99906-2753
b. Honda Candytone Orange Paint YR-2C - 08701-99906

It is only said for Honda 60s-70s maybe CB. How vague it is! So please help me out someone!

Thanks guys!
Josh

Those appear to be the "candy" colors used from 1968 on.

Bill Silvers Restoration Guide suggests "Scarlet R-2(try Ford's Sunset or Vibrant Red or Ditzler DPL71654k)".

I believe I also found on this site somewhere to use Dupont Imron 6543UM for Red.

I haven't tried either yet. Let us know.

Hi Jim,

Thanks for the reply. Very useful. Does candy colour similar to the earlier honda paint?

if you take the chrome tank side off it is most of the time prestine and can be color matched at any auto paint supply.

I found a spray that seems to match my early CL Red. I sprayed inside my headlight shell and could not tell the difference from factory. "Rustoleum Painters Touch Apple Red", available at Home Depot. I am going to go ahead and use it, I'll post some pics along they way. Meanwhile I am off to Sears in search Krylon dull aluminum. -DC
