What is special about a CA78 Dream?

Post by oldducs » Wed Sep 20, 2006 10:38 pm

I just purchased a 305 Dream that looks like any other late model Honda Dream, but the frame number is CA78 while the engine number is CA77E (like ussual).

Was this a police bike or something? Why the 78 instead of 77?

Please help.

Sorry, nothing special about your Dream. That is the common numbering system.

Honda ran out of CA77 frame numbers about 1967. They stareted using the CA78 designatio

Daven on the frame. This caused problems in some states because the MSO stated the model as CA77 but the frame number as CA78-xxxxxxx.

HONDA didn't run out of numbers.
The CA78 was used to denote a US market bike. ..............lm

I have a C78, frame number C78-100541, and is build in 1963, sold in 1964 in amsterdam, has tubelar steering and a very rare tail light with the dream 305 in clear plastic. (Have you seen this before? at the CA72 / CA77 forum), just letting you know. I'm the third owner, and I'm pretty sure that it is all original.

Hello Jensen.

Can you put some pictures from taillight. Especially dream 300 plastic plate. I remember there was some kind of cover plate in backside?
Last time i was seen this kind accessory was about 15 years ago in my father`s garage. It was lying in the shelf.
Now i cant found it nowhere...

Thanks

Ville
