Japan Meets Britain
Hi Vince
This is a copy of an old photograph that appeared in this month's, The Classic MotorCycle Magazine. The bike was built 40 years ago by Neale Didcock using a CB72 engine converted to 5-speed. Neale covered 50,000 miles on the bike back in the 60s but it was wrecked by an errant car driver..... SuperHawk meets Triton anybody?....... G '60 C77 '60 C72 '62 C72 Dream '63 CL72

I never said you were crazy!! :-)
I always follow your thread with great interest... Such a pity that it went to the scrapheap in the sky. It would be interesting to know how many engine rebuilds he did in that 50,000 miles or whether the motor had a gentle life in that chassis. I'm tempted to try a 305 engine in my Matchless now...... Could be a CL77 CS.... G '60 C77 '60 C72 '62 C72 Dream '63 CL72

Honda engine in a Matchless frame.....so that would make it a Matchda? A Honless?
Interesting to look at that photo -- exposed front springs (or are those gaiters?), Gold Star mufflers....can't tell if those carbs are Amals or not! Also noticed that he doesn't have a chain guard....hmm...got fed up with it after it broke, perhaps??? Interesting that it's a 5 speed, but I still see the kickstart lever -- was there a way to do the 5 speed conversion without losing the kickstart? Or maybe this photo is pre-5 speed conversion?
