CYB kit "C" shifter rods

Post by carpenter793 » Sun Feb 02, 2014 12:01 pm

I finally finished some shifter rods that I have been working on. These are the long "C" rods from the CYB kit. In the group, the NOS Honda rod is on the right, with the rest being stainless steel. In the group of three, the one on the left is titanium, the one in the middle is stainless steel, and the one on the right is again the NOS Honda part. The difference in color in the threaded area of the Honda part is due to the copper showing through on the threads from the plating process. These actually turned out nicer than the original part, but were more work than I expected. A lot of hand work was required to remove tool marks on the 10mm hex flats so that they would polish up nicely. Next time I will definitely start with 10mm hexagonal bar! Lessons learned.

Beautiful work!

Thanks for sharing those. The titanium ones must've been hard work.

G-man. Thanks for the compliment. Yes, the titanium one was a bear to machine. I've machined titanium before, but never trying to hold tight dimensions. I only made the one for my personal bike. I machined the stainless ones to try and sell, but if someone really wanted a titanium one, I'm sure I could be persuaded. I was able to pick up a bike with essentially all of the CYB bits, so I hope to slowly reproduce them, mainly for my own bike, but if the extras happen to sell and be worth my time, then great. If not, then fine - it is still a fun process. The aluminum rear fender is probably going to be the hardest to copy, but I look forward to getting started on it.

I see your bike now. I am building one myself, slowly. I have a fiberglass copy of the rear fender and have pretty much all of the other parts in my workshop or on the way. I have a set of CYB meggas, the inlet trumpets and the right hand half of the CYB cam.

My friend has a CYB72 with pretty much all of the genuine parts including the very rear header covers.

Enjoy your project .

Sounds like you are well on your way. The only thing I missing kit-wise is the exhaust and the front number plate bracket. Someone on this forum was nice enough to give me the dimensions of the megaphones, so I should have those covered. Now if I can only find that bracket. I am really enjoying building these parts, and learning new skills such as sheet metal work with the fenders. Not a lot of riding time in the Pacific Northwest, but plenty of shop time!
