1966 Honda 305 Dream idling issue!

Post by ROBM50 » Thu Dec 29, 2016 5:23 am

Hey Guys! I would like to ask how to set my engine idle higher for my 1966 Honda 305 Dream. Un-throttled it seems to idle very slow and eventually wants to die out. I've adjusted the right screw on the carb clockwise in short increments and I don't notice a change. Is there any other adjustments in addition to this that can help me achieve a higher idle speed? Will appreciate the info

G'day ROBM50

There are a lot of experts here that will be able to help a lot more than me, but there are probably no shortcuts - make sure everything else is correct by giving the old girl a full tune-up first. Make sure fuel flow is good (no blocked strainers), check the tappets, plugs, points and timing first. After that, then you can safely check the idle by screwing in the idle screw (the one you have been adjusting).

Let us know how you get on.

Thanks.

Many things affect the tick over and starting as you know ignition timing points gap coil strength age of plugs air filter condition cam timing

It regulates the air that is mixed the fuel that has passed through slow running jet
It is set by warming engine and allowing engine idle and lifting engine speed very slightly using slide stopper screw then turn air screw until engine speed is at its fastest the turn slide stopper screw out until desired tick over is achieved
