C77/78 indicator flasher units

Post by casamere » Fri Jul 17, 2015 3:59 pm

Hi Guys, I am hoping for some help here from you guys that have the indicators fitted to the C77/78. I have just restores a CA78 but have added indicators the problem is that they just come on when bike is idling but do not flash until the bike has a few revs on or at speed.
Could the flasher can be the wrong one. Any help appreciated.
Steve. UK.

Flasher

A picture would help identify what flasher you have.

You could have some corrosion in your wiring connections that are affecting the flasher. If I am not mistaken that is also what happens to the internals of the flasher itself. Back in the day it would just get replaced. I think I read somewhere that they can be rebuilt but, I can't help you there.

Have you considered using LED bulbs for the flashers (tail light, too)? That would take an LED flasher unit as well as the lower power consumption won't create the heat in the flasher to make it work. Worth considering.

Hope that helps.

doesn't surprise me. These charging systems are marginal at best at idle. Both my 750 Hondas act the same way, a few revs and they will flash.

As I recall, a solution is to put more load on the flasher and it will do a better job of flashing at lower voltages.

From my original post, I'm hoping I have solved my indicator problem by fitting higher wattage bulbs. The handbook says 12v x 10w but I have just fitted 12v x15w and they work brilliant.

i guess that just warms up the bimetallic strip a bit quicker.

Fitting an electronic flasher would allow you to use low wattage bulbs or LEDs
