Dianne's 1967 CA77Dianne's 1967 CA77I am retired and have been riding off and on for over 50 years and doing my own mechanical work. In the past year I have picked up a 1962 C100 Honda 50 (my first ride) for restoration, a 1983 Honda Shadow (which I subsequently sold), and my daily highway ride is an '02 Harley FXD.
I was looking for a CB77 (my second ride) but everything that was showing up was $$$ or in terrible shape. A CA77 came up for sale and I got dibs on it - pick it up today. It seems to be in pretty good shape but a couple of key pieces are missing - like the mufflers and seat - and I am debating which way to go with this bike. I want to end up with a daily rider for the country (gravel) roads - something that is fun to go exploring the back roads - but not go too far from the original CA77 style. I am thinking after-market exhaust and maybe a solo seat but no modifications that can't be un-done if someone wants to restore it in the future. I could keep it in original, un-restored condition, and show it as an antique/classic and ride it anyway (just doing an internal overhaul/rebuild). or I could do a complete, ground-up restoration. What are your thoughts on the various options keeping in mind that I live on a pension and want a 'rider' rather than a show piece.

the CA77 suspension will punish you on gravel roads. There just isn't much there.
You are also missing the carby covers. There is a pic on another thread of a solo seat with an old Honda CT200 rack on the back. Very trick looking. Are you missing the seat completely or is it just rough? That bike is actually pretty nice and a good candidate for resto but you could make some changes that would not make permenant changes to the bike.
Hauled the Dream-and-a-quarter home Thursday ("Dream and a quarter" because there are parts from a second Dream).
Got everything unloaded in the shop so the CA77 has joined the 02 Harley FXD and the Honda 50. The engine turns over and has compression, I have ordered a couple of ignition keys and a battery and there are a couple of wires floating around loose that I need to trace down. It seems in pretty good shape and I am ever so tempted to put fresh oil and gas in it and see if it will start! I know I should do a compression test first to see if there are any stuck or broken rings and I KNOW I should overhaul the carb and give it a good going-over but IT'S RIDING SEASON and a long winter coming for shop work so I'd like to RIDE (if the Dream is up to it). We will see if I give in to temptation or "do it right" LOL!
