We replaced the Coil. points and Condenser, Plugs and still does the same thing.....Carb has been rebuilt also........ It is charging at 12.5 when reved up..... Does anyone have any suggestions ........ This is Killing me ...... You can post or call me at 901-489-5369
Thanks in Advance Tommy Loss of fireThat sucks. Unfortunately, the solution to an intermittent problem can only be found... intermittently. You have to ride it til it stops and then diagnose or you will be just guessing (as with your coil, points, etc.)
When it quits do you still have 12 v at the coil? The horn and stop light switch (and winkers if you have them) are on that "hot" circuit. Does it seem to quit when you hit the brakes? Is your battery still at full charge when it dies? If your power circuit is giving a good continuous 12v, but you still have no fire, then the issue is either in your coil or your points. Since you changed those, it doesn't seem likely those components are bad, so I would look at connectors. Did you remove the spark plug caps and clip a quarter inch off of those plug wires? Hope that helps. As frustrating as it is, you will get it worked out. Don't get discouraged. the answer is there somewhere. First sure you sure it's ignition? Ignition tends not to be intermittent. Carry a spare plug and see if it will fire.
Sounds more like fuel. Not enough distance to be the gas cap (tank vacuum) - possibly limited fuel to the carb - runs until the float bowl is empty then quits. Will it restart after sitting a few minutes? Pull the gas line and see if good fuel flow to the carb.
No not the rectifier. Check the battery voltage, key on engine off and then engine running. you need to have at least 12VDC not running and about 12.5VDC running.
I still doubt it is electrical - There are a few electrical problems that are generated by heat but you are not riding far enough for that. The only other electrical problem would be a loose wire or connection - long shot ignition switch. You could work around most potential electrical problems by running a hot wire (12VDC) directly to the positive side of the coil. (If you do this pulling the wire off is the only way to shut it off). Still think it's a fuel problem - Check for moisture in the tank.
