Dream Grips

Post by jplato13 » Sun Sep 19, 2010 11:48 am

Hello all,
I have a question about original Dream grips, I have what I believe is an original Dream I inheirited from my grandfather. He bought this in late 1966 as a used bike, but from my research thanks to your information on this site I have it was built in 1966. The wire tag has a date of 1966 as well. Anyways the hand grips are/were a lite yellow, could have been white and are stamped as made in Italy. Would these have ever been original or dealer additions when new? I ask because there is no reason I can see for these to have been changed and my grandfather is not someone who spent money on things for looks. Any help would be useful. Thanks

John

Hi,

Nothing is sure 100 %, and local versions may vary, but I think it's a dealer' add on, if you father didn't change them. A 1966 dream should have black grips, early dreams were having grey grips. The black grip should say Honda (see picture).

It would have been delivered from Japan with the grips pictured above. Someone has changed them afterwards, there were/are some period Italian grips available in white that were more 'oval', with deep finning, but they are aftermarket ones.
