Picked up my dream today (pics)
Picked up my dream today (pics)Hey guys,

Newbie here. I just picked up my first Dream today. A 1965 305. I'm the third owner and the second owner started it only once about ten years ago. For the most part, it's been sitting since 1970. It's in pretty good shape with minimal dingage, no rips, motor seems ok, pipes are ok too. I feel like I got a really good deal on it from a friends father. Getting this dream has been about two years in the making.
Things I know I need:
-clutch lever
-new tires
-battery
-clean the carb
-inspect and clean the tank
-change oil
-plugs
-mirrors

Do you guys think there is ANY possibility of me reusing the O rings on the carb? Any advice you can give me would be highly appreciated.
TYI,

Geoff

please don't flame me for the messy garage! I'm cleaning it tomorrow!

Re: Picked up my dream today (pics)RKP, Welcome! looks like a real good project bike. Were you refering to the carb isolater o-ring? If so I have reused them but not if they are smashed flat, torn, or cracked(sounds like my love life) A new pair are perty cheap at the local parts store. If you E-bay there is alot of used stuff there for the things you mentioned,or there are many fine venders mentioned here on the forum. If you can't find em write me I'll send a list. Good Luck, Steve Greer
Re: Picked up my dream today (pics)Thanks Kustom,

I might have the cart ahead of the horse on this one. This is the oldest bike I've owned and was assuming there is an O ring around the bowl. I guess there isn't? My plan right now is to just clean her up a little bit, get her running and play around this summer. Maybe this winter I'll get nutty and break her down all the way for a full restoration. You have to admit that there is a certain charm about riding an original bike even if it is a little rough.

Geoff
Re: Picked up my dream today (pics)Oh yah,

Anyone know anything about the symbol on the side cover? The red and blue flag with the tree? It looks very U.N.ish. Was that Hondas original emblem or was this just on the dreams. Just a trival thing I was wondering.

Geoff
Re: Picked up my dream today (pics)RKP, Right, the bowl uses a flat gasket. Iv'e never seen a logo like that I thought it was somthing the dealer put on when it was sold new. You bet ,ride the bike that way! Patina is a very in deal right now! Steve Greer
Re: Picked up my dream today (pics)Now that I've had a night to sleep on it, I have some more specific questions. I have a manual ordered but need some basic advice. How much oil does the system hold?
Also, what are all the different key positions for? There are like 5 different positions. It's an overcast gloomy day here so i'm crawling into the garage to do some work.

Thanks for the advice,

Geoff
Re: Picked up my dream today (pics)G, Glad to hear you ordered a manual! I'm alwayse bitchin' at guys to get their own. My CB 77 holds a tiny bit over two quarts of oil. as far as the key switch goes I'd only be guessing, my CB only has 3 positions! Maby Ryan will read this and have some info for ya. Steve Greer
