Stiff Clutch?

Post by Madness » Sun Jun 01, 2008 7:38 pm

Greetings,

A question if I may…

I have a 64 CA77, runs very well, however after an hour of riding the clutch lever gets stiffer and stiffer, and the lever travels less and less.
It also does not pull all the way in after the “Stiffness” starts.
I just got home from a 2 hour ride and my left hand is killing me as a result.

Seems the cable may be sticking, also making neutral hard to find…

Any suggestions?

Thank you in advance…

Scotty..

you might try oiling the cable. also make sure the lever mechanism inside the right side case is clean and greased. also if the big slotted adjuster on the side of the case is adjusted to far, it puts the lever in a position where it doesn't have the best advantage. sorry about the caveman drawings.

Thank you for the info!

I will check the lever tonight.
in regards to the cable, its old.

Maybe a change would be in order.
Can I do the inspection/lubrication of the lever through the plug on the case?

there should be a grease fitting on the case near the large slotted adjuster. that is if you can find a grease nozzle to fit it. it's not a standard zerk.

I had a similiar problem and all it turned out to be was that the cable had shifted and was binding. A pull and push on the cable and it has been fine. This usually happens when someone puts the longer cables on the bike. Hope this helps.

Update....

The Clutch cable is shot, worn through in two places...
(Located by Cable lube injection LOL)

Any idea on where to find the correct cable for this bike?
It is a 1964 CA77.

I may as well do all of them.

Any info would be fantastic!

Thanks in advance!
