However, you must ensure that the slide can move freely inside the carb. If the carb has been over-tightened it can warp, causing the slide to bind, usually at the top of its travel.

Slide binding can also be caused by build-up of gunk (for want of a better word) on the surface of the slide and interior of the slide bore.
Like I said....if I just pull on the ball end...the cable moves very smoothly and snaps back properly.

I have cleaned the slot in the handlebars...I have a brand new slider and throttle tube...

I have tried silicone grease....cleaned that off...graphite spray....cleaned that off...regular grease...

All with absolutely no change in operation between the old slide and the new slide...new throttle tube...old throttle tube...

As stated...it sounds like it's just a property of these bikes...

I'm thinking about changing to a Hawk (CB77) throttle (as per DianneB) and some low rise bars ala:

I need to find a single pull throttle cable that'll thread into the Hawk housing...and I'll be on my way..

Just a thought don't know if it's been suggested but instead of trying to make new bits fit your old carb why not fit a complete new carb with matching slider.

G'day Dan

How is the condition of the cable and its routing thru the bike?

Cables can "appear" to feel OK when held vertical and the inner moved up and down in the outer, but when installed with all those bends in the cable they become sticky with a lot of drag. Have you tried lubricating the cable with some form of dry lubricant?

If the cable has been lubed previously with an unsuitable lubricant, it can also become sticking when insitu.

I have flat bars on my old girl and I know the standard cable tends to be a bit too long and throttle return is a little sluggish, but acceptable.

Hope this helps in some way.
Thanks.

Regards

Muddy

CB77 throttle cable is (for lack of a better term) a "Y"....no reason to change my carb..just need a single (rather than dual) pull cable.

Just need a single pull cable that'll thread into the CB77 housing.

I'll find one. Not worried.

Try a CA cable.

Try a CA cable.
CA ?

CA77/CA95 is what's on there...I need a throttle cable with a housing that threads into the throttle assembly (if I use the CB77 throttle assembly).

For illustrative purposes...here's the Hawk housing.

As you can see it's a "conventional" twist type throttle and the throttle cable housing itself threads into the actual aluminum throttle housing...
