The only other thing I can think of is that there is an early and a late seat. If you have the pre-64 (or is it mid 63) the seat has a closed loop and a bolt goes through it. The later model has the "horse shoe" type bracket. I've seen seats where they've cut the front of the loop off to make it work, but the front of the seat is different!

Early vs late seat

Post by conbs » Mon Mar 04, 2013 5:10 pm

If I have it correctly, the early and late seats use the same bracket 77124-254-010 underneath so I would assume that the CA77 and CA78 seats would mount at the same points (except for the closed front mount on the early seat). I don't have an early seat so I have not tried it out on a bike.

If I have it correctly a bit further, the early seat has a rounded front to fit into the early tank and the late seat is flat across the front. Of course, the early seat also has the closed loop for the front mount. Never tried it, but I understand they are a giant pain to get the bolt through that front mount.

Interesting that the late seat has a CIIIA72 product code "272". The 250's apparently had 4 or 5 different tanks as opposed to just an early and late.

Hope that helps.
