It has another rack that fits behind that one for carrying "cargo", but I've decided to leave that one off for now. The dealer is still in business, but now called Cycles 128 and they have one hanging in the upstairs showroom, but it's in rougher shape.

Soda blast the engine if anything. That way it's easier to clean up and won't harm sensitive parts. Glass beads can be a bitch to get rid of but the soda will dissolve when you wash. You could do it in situ.

i would buy that rack without hesitation but with the history on this bike we both know you should keep it! i strap a milk crate to my back seat and go.

Little more progress. Rebuilt petcock and carb. Cleaned up more chrome and soda blasted motor and other areas and they cleaned up nice.
I'll start assembling soon. Still need a carb gasket as the one in the kit had straight edges and the bowl is more curved.

This project has been delayed far too long, but is now complete. Found a brand new muffler in the OEM plastic that was purchased 30 years ago and needs to be swapped out for the right side unit. I'll fire her up this weekend and take a quick spin before mothballing for winter storage.

Would love to have the original white walls, but they are hard to find and pretty expensive form what I hear.
I'd like to clean up the engine side covers (paint and polish) next spring).

I know you posted this a while ago but, I just had to comment. That really is a stunning bike. Soichiro would be proud of it.
Congratulation on two counts:
1. Having gone through about what you did with a '65, congratulations on having the gumption to stick with the project to completion. Many start out with the best of intentions but, end up with a pile of parts instead of a bike.
2. That really is a stunning bike.

I stopped by the local dealer and talked with the owner and his father is the person who owned the original dealership that the bike was purchased, and the bike still has that decal. The owner offered to purchase the bike, but it's not for sale, so he then offered to put it on display with a number of other older bikes and we are working to put together an agreement so there is no confusion of ownership or liability while in his dealership. The bike will be displayed on an elevated display out of the reach of most people. Much better there for others to enjoy than sitting in my garage. I'll bring it over in the next couple weeks.
I also put together a notebook with some of the original docs the bike came with.
