Tango, do your brackets have another bracket that extends down from the bottom and around the muffler? Mine seem to and they look stock. I don't really understand the need to have that extra bracket and I was just wondering if anyone else has it.

It extends down from the bottom on a bolt and curves around the muffler - both sides.

nope what you see in my pics is what i have. in fact one side has been re fabbed. I would assume the extended piece is so that the bags dont hit the mufflers but mine dont anyway, so, not sure really. This is my first set of bags and from what i know they are hard to find.

I think mine is a little different on the attachment point on the rear shock. I'm not sure how much it would cost to have it re-chromed, but I'm leaning on painting it. Anyone have an opinion on the cost of chroming? I'm not even sure where I'd go with it....

Don't know how much chrome job would be, but I would probably go with powdercoat instead of paint as it should be more durable. Coater should blast all the rust off and rough it up, giving the powder coat a good surface to flow over and bond to when it bakes.

I think your right. I just sent off for a quote on the hardware and the bracket at a local place. I've never had anything powder coated before
