ca77 valve adjustment on new engine

Post by win1906 » Thu May 25, 2017 11:21 pm

so i have rebuilt a ca77 engine following bill silver engine rebuild book.everything was real good until i got to valve adjustment.as i understand the ca77 engine is a 360 with both pistons at top dead center when the stater is on (t).i have the cam dot on top.so what side valves do i adjust first and then rotate 1 turn and adjust the other side.

Adjust the tappets on the side which has both valves closed, then as you say rotate engine through one complete revolution and set tappets on remaining side

Make sure you have the 360 engine (one set of points) as the earlier engine (two sets of points) is different

thanks for the reply but the head was completely taken apart so both sides have the valves completely closed.

If your cam and rockers are back in then the valves on both sides can't be closed unless you have the adjusters backed all the way off.
