1962 ca771962 ca77Sorry to have to ask this question since it has been seen here many times from others. I have a CA77 I purchased that has frame number CA77-24047 and engine number CA77E 214053. This seems to be outside of the range of any of the serial number tables I have seen.
Any one have an explaination or am I reading the table wrong. Thanks, Al
If the stampings look like factory character strikes, I wouldn't sweat it. In one of Bill Silver's books he has the engine numbers going up to 213875. He has a note on the bottom that says "unconfirmed figures from various publications (parts manuals, etc). I've owned two original paint 1962 CA77s, but did not commit to memory nor document the serial numbers. Sorry I can't be of more help.
HT 1962 CA77Thanks for the response. The serial number stamps are original and concur closely to each other. All parts are from the 1962 period (no seam gas tank, throttle, etc). Maybe it is like a US coin that was mis-struck when it was made and is a rare beast. Kind of makes it more difficult to find parts since it doesn't seem to fit any of the serial number windows.
Thanks, Al. 1962 Serial Number RangeI guess someone needs to explain how to read the table.
It looks to me like my frame number 24047 is larger than the maximum serial number for 1962 which looks to be 20851. Same for the engine serial number. What am I missing here?
Re: 1962 Serial Number RangePlease give pics. .................lm
Re: 1962 Serial Number RangeMy 1962 C72 has engine number 208449 which is also beyond the range of numbers in that table. There are plenty of exceptions. My wiring harness tag says 1961 and the bike was registered in the UK in 1963. Quite normal
Your only issue is whether someone has faked the number.... G
