Clutch issues

Post by gearhead3275 » Sun Oct 11, 2015 8:46 am

I put on a new clutch cable and found that when I engage the clutch it does nothing. I thought I had adjusted it correctly, but I guess not. The 1963 Honda Dream 305 I'm building was in sorry shape and I have refitted it with all the parts that were missing. I'm down to the clutch and some ignition issues. What have I missed regarding the clutch cable and its adjustment.

Check that the clutch actuator has the 5/16" bearing ball in it.
It presses against the clutch rod.

I missed that during the rebuild, I found the ball (by freak chance) and installed it. Put the bike in first, engaged the clutch "no difference" I was hoping I wouldn't have to tear the clutch down. I'm very new to the motorcycle rebuilding process.

Thank you for reaching out to a new guy. I'll try to come up with something..

I once put the ball in the wrong end of the actuator. It goes in the inboard end where it will press against the clutch rod.
Clutch rod length should be 9.625". Round end goes to the clutch side, flat end to the actuator side.

The ball is completely round?

Clutch rod is the correct size ad i now see what you were talking about, about the round and flat sides
