305 Dream finished305 Dream finishedI have finished the bike for the time being.
First time out was a disaster after the build. I had bought some replacement wheels with tyres fitted as a stop gap just to get me on the road as quick as possible. It had some Carlisle tyres fitted made in USA with a square section tread, they are awful, the road holding and slow handling was rubbish. The engine ran great for about an hour and then suddenly started to run really rough. The clutch went stiffer and stiffer until I could hardly pull the lever in and the clutch started to slip because it wasn't releasing. The front brake was poor. The twist grip was jerky and had a lot of free play. I needed some indicators. Trying to ride in loads of traffic like this was a nightmare, boy was I glad to get home. Bike back up on the bench. Ordered a set of new chrome rims, and a set of stainless spokes, and two new tyres. A set of bullet indicators and a relay. A new twist grip. Found the air filter intake tube had come loose causing the rough running. The problem with the clutch only turned out to be the routing of the cable ( which surprised me). Fitted all this lot went out for a ride, what a difference. The handling is great now runs and sounds great. Fitted the rims on the original hubs and used the original brake shoes the front brake is better but still not great. The new twist grip has made a big improvement too. So all in all I am very pleased and its done for the time being. also had some 305 Dream decals made.
