Kenda 100/90-16 Tires on a Dream
Kenda 100/90-16 Tires on a DreamI recently acquired a "project" 65 Dream that the previous owner had bought a new pair of tires for, but had not mounted them. They are Kenda 100/90-16 Blackwalls. I was wondering if anyone had ever used this size tire for a Dream? I also was curious if you did, could you use Portawalls, instead of using the Coker Firestone re-pops. Many thanks in advance for comments.
I can't say what people run for tires on their dreams but that metric size converts to between a 2.25 and a 2.5 inch wide tire.
I've never heard of people using portawalls on a bike but I would be skeptical....... I've come across a thread here somewhere of people using a whitewall paint with decent results.
Sorry I meant 3.25 to 3.5. And that's going off of this chart. I just measured a 100/90-18 on the front of a bike and it measured 3.9" wide. Also measured a 3.25-19 and actual width was 3.6". Measured the 2.75-18 on the front of my CB77 and it actually was 2.75. Actual size and printed size can vary quite a bit. Some manufactures more than others. Rim width will also come into play.
I wasn't trying to argue just posting what I found :) I've even come across difference in sizes in tires of the same size but of a different brand! Sometimes I wonder where they get their measurements.........
Many thanks for the replies. My web search pretty much states that a 100/90 tire is the equivalent of a 3.25 to 3.5 inch. Funny thing is that is for a front tire. The rear tires seem to be a 90/110, which is a 4 inch equivalent. Guess you can't win with some of these tires available for a Dream. I might try a whitewall paint to see how it works out.
