I have been slowly stopping the drill during my tests. It will return to zero smoothly. Every once in a while I get a bounce while "accelerating" with the drill. I attributed it to unsteady hands. I'll follow the advice here and do a little more cleaning.
Thanks everyone

I installed my cleaned speedo after following the advice given here, and everything works smoothly. I couldn't be happier.
Thanks everyone

Is it normal to hear a certain amount of speedo whine? I took the dream for a ride around the neighborhood with no helmet (I know) and could hear quite a bit of whine coming from that area. I have no frame of reference since I bought the bike last year.

Whine

Whine is not normal. Try lubing your speedo cable (I think LM recommends white grease) and lubing the bottom bushing on your speedo. Take the speedo out and turn it upside down to get the lube down in the bushing. Use a synthetic bicycle oil.

Also make very sure your cable is seated well on both ends, but not too tight.

The above may fix it. If not then you will need to take the speedo apart at some point to re-lube or you could send it out. Don't be too intimidated. Speedometers are amazingly simple.

Took the speedo out as recommended and put some bicycle lube down in the cable and into the speedo and presto no more whine. Before I did this I was beginning to get some erroneous readings on the speedo. Now all seems right in the world. Thanks again for the advice. Now I just need it to warm up a bit here in the northeast!!!!
