I also have a desulfating charger. It rarely really fixes the battery.

Batteries which have sat unused for long periods of time can be prime candidates for desulfation. A long period of self-discharge allows the sulfate crystals to form and become very large. Some typical cases where lead acid batteries are not used frequently enough are planes, boats (esp sail boats), old cars, and home power systems with battery banks that are under utilized. A battery will be unrecoverable if the active material has been lost from the plates, or if the plates are bent due to over temperature or over charging.

The bottom line is you can try it but it is marginal.

I didn't realize the batteries for the early models weren't that plentiful. I guess it couldn't hurt to try to de-sulfate the old one first. I'll let you know how it goes!

Here are a couple of Yuasa batteries that would work.
L W H
B54-6 12amp 6 1/8 2 1/4 4 9/16
6N11A-1B 11amp 4 13/16 2 7/16 5 1/8

If you want to check out all their batteries by size here is a link -

I tried desulfating my Wisco battery but it didn't work for long. It just won't hold a charge. I bought a NOS Wisco and the one they sent had a crack in it so I sent it back. I was looking at Yuasa batteries but most batteries I see for Honda Dreams say they are for late touring - 1963 - 1969. I have a 1962. Will it work? Does a '62 have a different size battery box than a '63?
