Mirrors on CA77

Post by conbs » Wed Mar 20, 2013 1:19 pm

I had thought that the CA77 had come with mirrors. I just looked at 4 different parts manuals and none of them shows mirrors on the handle bar page. The handle bar page for the CA78 shows the mirrors that screw into the brake/clutch lever mounts.

Looking a little further, I found the early mirrors on the "Dimmer Switch . Starter Switch" page. They are also threaded. 88110-257-810 and 88120-257-810 (from the CE71). There is a two piece mount for them that shows up on Ebay once in a while.

The early and late mirrors have different part numbers, Anyone know what the difference is?

Why Honda put them in different places in the parts manual makes no sense, but is consistent with the problems found in Honda literature, especially with CA77 vs CA78 models.

I have also noticed that my brake and cluth adjustmenters are star shaped...............those are in the manual................for early it seems. But from the few bikes ive seen.............they dont have star sdjusters. So, if there isn't a hole from mirrors to attach on perches...............where would they mount unless they are like mine? Maybe Loud mouse will be able to shed some light

CA77 mirrors

Post by conbs » Wed Mar 20, 2013 3:24 pm

The OEM mirors would mount in the same place as yours. But, yours are aftermarket, so the mount is just made different. The parts manuals show pictures of a rectangular mirror for early and late (and pressed metal) handle bars. If you look at the mount pictured in the parts manuals, you can see why the original mirrors have to be threaded.

I spoke to original owner of bike yesterday and he says that it seems like his brother dropped the bike in the 60's and messed up mirror and headlight bucket..............that resolves several issues................since it seems the headlight bucket has two holes for honda badge and it isnt supposed to. so.......apparently little brother damaged that along with mirrors and he replaced them many years ago.............thanks all for the help..........ya just saved me 90 bucks in chrome. Looks like i will never be able to find the mounts and stuff for original bike so ill prob just buy some off of ebay....................thank again
