New ProjectNew ProjectI just inherited this 1967 CA 77 from my mother-in-law. It has been sitting outside and inside a shed since the late 80’s. It was a project/gift from her late husband and I want to keep it as authentic as possible. There was only one other owner and I’m not sure on the mileage since the odometer appears busted. We unloaded it today and my wife went straight to work cleaning it!
Right off, I know I will have to get a new wiring harness and the gas tank has rust in it (I did not notice any holes in the tank). I was able to cycle the gears and get it into neutral so we could move it easy. I think the engine may be a rebuild; however, we won’t know for sure until we get into it. If anyone has some links, suggestions for parts, or knows someone around the Conroe, Texas area who can help out let me know. I will post some more pics as we get further into it. Thanks in advance. Looks like you have a good start. You appear to be missing only the carb covers and the bottom part of the front fender. Carb covers, front fenders, wiring harness etc. can be found on ebay occasionally, but can be pretty pricey. You can find other stuff from these vendors: http://www.honda305.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=6470 Switch the tank emblems around but don't lose the screws! Before tearing it all apart, I would try to get it running just to see how well the engine is operating. You are lucky, most people who get these kind of projects have to tear down the engine because it is seized. No sense in disassembling it if you don't have to. By not doing so you could save yourself a lot of time and money before getting to ride it. Good luck, Jethro I didn't even catch the emblems! That's funny; I'll switch them. Thanks for the thread link. The speedo plate is there but I cannot read the numbers, the arrow is gone and the odee is trashed; I will need the glass eventually though.
Also, I read on another thread where someone put PB blaster (?) in the plug sockets to clean them out. You're right Jethro, I'm going to get the tank cleaned out, new plugs, drain and refill the oil and see how it cranks before deciding to get into the engine. Yeah PB blaster works well to free up corroded threads. Personally I hate the smell of that stuff so I use the sea-foam deep-creep. I think it works a bit better and has a pleasant smell. Glad to hear you are going to get it running first. While you're at the tank, oil, plugs, etc, it wouldn't hurt to check ignition points, valve clearance, and the carb as well. If you need any further help or explanations people here would be happy to help I'm sure.
And good point Brewski has about those screws. A lot of the hardware on these Dreams have JIS threads (not metric or SAE) and can be difficult to replace, so keep all your hardware. Have fun! Mother-in-lawWow! Everybody needs a mother-in-law like yours.
