Steering Lock Cover

Post by Ralphie1 » Sun May 16, 2010 11:26 pm

Does anyone know the thread pitch, diameter and length of the little screw ( Honda p/n 50114-250-310) that holds the chrome steering lock cover on...it's a little tuff to measure.

Hi and welcome. Are you familiar with J.I.S. yet? (Japanese Industrial Standard) These are older J.I.S. I believe. Can't help with your question but hopefully I saved you some time looking in hardware stores.

Hi,

I'm afraid to say that it's not a little screw. It's press fit pin, and with a little patience it can be taken out. Maybe on the CA it's different, butt at the C72 and C77 here in Europe it's a pin.

Ralph

On my newly-acquired C72 project and its parts bike sister - it is a screw. There's a little spring there too to give the cover a little movement. I'm on one of my US trips at the moment but I'll willingly measure it for you when I get home to UK (23rd May).

Incidentally - I'm looking for a key to match that lock. Tried all of the obvious places.

Regards

Hi,

Funny, on my dream it's a pin, same as on a CB400F
The cover on my dream also looks different, it has text on it.

(the lock is original and has the original key, and fully working)

Ralphie

As promised, here are some details of the lock cover and screw.

Diameter of thread 3mm (measures 2.86)
Length of threaded portion 6.24mm

Diameter of boss (under head) 4mm (measures 3.95)

Length of boss 3mm

Head diameter of screw 5.66mm

As for thread pitch, I guess that it will be JIS, so same as tank badge screws.
