CA72 Carb Qs

Post by chuckr » Sat Jun 01, 2019 8:25 pm

Hi - Just got my first Honda, a '64 CA72 - with a newly rebuilt carb, runs pretty good and idles great. Here's a few basic carb questions:

- is choke OFF with the lever in the DOWN position? I do have the manual but it's unclear.

- Lean? After idling - plugs look perfect, toasty brown. If I take it for a fast run, plugs are white - suggesting it's running lean.

I'm going through the handbook and the FAQ, but not clear - does the air mixture screw (assume it's the left screw - close to the engine) affect fast running? Or just idle...can I turn it in to make it slightly richer?

Or maybe it's not an issue. thanks Chuck

Choke off in the down position

Air screw only adjusts idle mixture.

To richen the mixture, lift the needle up one notch (move the clip down.
