Here We Go

Post by Rickytic » Sat Apr 28, 2012 10:17 pm

Just purchased a 1966 CL77, was delivered on Friday. I am not new to restoring cars etc. and have done a little research on the Cl77 prior to purchase. The bike is very complete and looks absolutely great for being 46 years old, will add pictures to this. There are a few things that I think are incorrect on this bike and any help would be graciously accepted.

I looked under the seat and the wiring tag says 1966, I presume this bike is a 1966.

1. The fenders are chrome, don't think this is correct. I think the 1966 came with painted fenders?

2. The rear brake pedal has a stop when it is released, appears to be an addition to the frame. It is a bracket that has been bolted to the frame.

3. The tail light is the smaller tail light, think this is right.

4. At the top of right front fork, underneith the bolt that goes thru the triple tree, there is some kind of a chrome bracket, don't remember ever seing one of these, don't know what it is or what it might be for.

5. One side has a rubber cover on the foot rest and the other side does not, which is correct.

Guess that's all the questions I have for now. I have been following the forum since February when I first started the deal on this new project, and know that you all are some very educated people when it comes to the Honda. From the looks of this bike, it is mostly unmolested and is very original and complete. For now, just going to put a battery, gas and fire it up to see what it sounds like.

Sorry about not including the numbers.

Frame number is CL77 1039432
Engine number is CL77E-1039439

Only 7 numbers off, I believe this is totally acceptable for originality.

I see a seam in the tank yet I also see what looks like a removable muffler. Heat shields on the exhaust look correct for a removable muffler. Welded muffler exhaust had longer shields.

Bike looks nice. Might be the numbers are right for a mix of parts, if that is possible. I'd have to look in the parts book to see if there were any chrome fender bikes with non-welded muffler.

regards,
Rob

I did notice today that the rear fender has 2 holes slightly hidden at the top of the tail light brackett. Again, the tail light and brackett is the small one. I really don't think the chrome fender is correct for this bike. I

Thanks Rod, the muffler has been added from what I have been told by the PO. I do have the little insert baffles that was originaly installed. Will probably go back to that. I really want the bike as close to the original as I can get it.
