old pic of 305
old pic of 305Hi, I am new to the board. I will try to post a picture of a 305 Scrambler that I owned way back in 1967. Is it a 77? Did it come with everything chrome except the frame? What year is it? I would like to find another one like it, but not sure about all the models and what is a 72 or 77? I would love any info anyone can give me. Thanks.
Wayne
Lovely old photo! The bike is a 77, judging by the big front brake and alloy fork sliders. I don't think the CL72 model ever made it to those features. The bike would have been less than two years old in 1967 The bike has definitely been customised in my opinion, as most of those chrome parts will have left the factory painted in silver. The exception is the fenders but normally chrome fenders will be teamed with a candy blue or red tank and side panels with a black frame. The seat cover is custom and the frame color (could be the old photo) doesn't look right for a red frame. The front fender doesn't hug the tire like I would expect. A great piece of history, though which just goes to show that folks didn't care so much about 'originality' then as we see to now.... You will find lots of photos of original bikes on this forum. But here is one to be going on with. http://www.flickr.com/photos/cocktailsa ... 916826197/ G '60 C77 '60 C72 '62 C72 Dream '63 CL72

Re: old pic of 305Ya show a 1966 issue with almost everything custom.
Lots of painted parts have been chromed and the aluminum cases have been polished. Red isn't HONDA. Shocks are different.? Front fender appears to be Pulled Back a bit. Of course the seat is recovered. 72 can refer to the CL72 (250cc Scrambler) where 77 to the CL77 (305cc Scrambler). .............lm
That's a great picture. Chrome was a standard custom mod back then. There was a guy across the street from us when I was a kid that was about 10 years older than me. Had the nicest '67 Vette in town. He also had a BSA 441 Victor that was completely chrome. Only bits that were not chrome were rubber or plastic. Wonder where that bike is today.

Thanks Guys !!! I am 65 years old now and was about 22 when the photo was made.
I am geting re-intrested now and want to buy one like it to restore. I just was not sure what was original about the bike because I bought it used and can't even remember who from. I went to the link provided by G-Man and it was very informative. I notice mine did not have the shock from the frame to the forks and the front fender does look higher. I have no idea where the bike went to. I do remember it was BAD, must have had some engine work. It would do wheeles and climb like a goat. I have been told this was the first or the forerunner of dirt bikes. I was actually an old Hog Harley fan back then and probably there was one or two sitting around behind the cars in the picture. I did not appreceiate what I had in the 305. Thanks again!
