Stupid Headlight Bucket Question [and some new bike pics!]

Post by mrk_d » Mon Jan 18, 2010 2:32 pm

So I picked up a CL77 a few days ago and was poking around checking out the wiring throughout the bike. I pulled the headlight out of the bucket, and now I can't get the thing back on. I've owned a few old bikes w/ similar headlight assemblies and had no issues...any clever ideas? I don't want to bend/break anything trying to force it on. Sorry, I know this is a pretty dumb question, but I figured it's better to ask than to mess something up!

Here's a few pics of the bike, I can't wait to get it running!

Also, does anyone know what year I have? The numbers are close and I'm thinking it's a 66 based on what I've read, but here are the numbers:

FRAME: CL77-1012672
ENGINE: CL77E-1012666

Thanks!

I would guess 1965.

65s have the smaller brake hubs like yours/ The headlight bucket has a lip at the top. hook the chrome rim over that first, the smack in the sides by hand. I'd love to see more pics!

Thanks for the tip on the headlight, looks like I was doing the right thing but I should just use more force. I'll have to grab some good pics once it stops raining here.

By the way, the guy I bought it from had the shop in the second picture, quite a few cool old bikes there (Triumphs, BSAs, old motorcross race bikes, lots of Yamahas)...quite the set up!

The more I read/learn about these bikes the more I can't wait to ride mine. I was actually going to buy an SL100 but the CL caught my eye so I ended up with it instead. Sure glad I did.

To me the numbers show ya have a 1965 SMALL BRAKE issue and ya have a CL72 Aluminum rear fender. ...................lm

Thanks for the model year info. Sounds like I may want to track down some proper fenders for it.
