Any chance a dealer back in the day might have had a bike come in with bad tires and rather than put Nittos on it, he put what he had in stock, in this case K70's?

I know that it was normal for Triumph dealers to make subtle changes to bikes to please potential buyers. The gray grips that came on '66 Triumphs were all pretty much taken off when the bikes were assembled and replaced with black grips by dealers. Harley dealers yanked the fiberglass boat tails off the first Superglides and put Sportster rear fenders on to help bikes sell. Indian dealers tossed the valanced fenders in the trash because at the time, they were not well received by riders (wouldn't you love to have a pile of NOS take off valanced fenders today?!).

So I would think that Honda dealers might have done similar things.
regards,
Rob

LM - 3.00x19 front; 3.50x19 rear.

Rob - I suspect you are right - either that or the PO to my father put them on. My
pops bought the bike in 1967 from the original owner, but I don't believe tires were
swapped, which leads me to believe they were dealer installed. Will check with my pops on that, his memory is pretty good.
