NOS shows up on ebay and sometimes is in stock at HONDA dealers. Nipples with washers at same sources. Aftermarket is plentiful including Buchannons.

Rims...........???? 40 front and 36 rear in NOS are more rare than hen's teeth. Re-chromed get pricey but if you start with minimal rust and no serious pitting they are affordable for a near- concours restoration. Occasional 'clean' wheels show up on ebay. I may have one or two in my stock.

Hi,

I needed 'new' parts when I restored my CL77 a few years ago but couldn't find any.
My rims were just about rust free with little or no pitting but not good enough for what I wanted, chrome was dull and about gone in places.

I had the rims re-chromed, the original spokes zinc plated, the nipples nickel plated and made new stainless washers myself.

After vapour blasting and polishing hubs and brake plates I rebuilt the wheels myself and they came out like new.

These bikes are fifty years old now and the N.O.S. stuff has all but gone, we need to grasp restoring the parts we already have rather than binning them and just buying new parts.

If you have the original parts you should restore them and leave the fast disappearing N.O.S. stuff for people who don't. Can be cheaper that way too.

Restoring your current rims are a good solution. If you don't have the skills or tools, there are local shops that can help you.

Browns Plating

Post by smi481 » Tue Jun 06, 2017 1:37 pm

Browns Plating in Paducah, Kentucky did an excellent job on the CL72 wheels
even with the wheels deep groves.

We saw an article about them that said Leno and Cruise used their
services because of the quality and just 8 day turnaround.

Too bad they closed .... really missed.

Same here,Brown's did an excellent job on my CL's chrome. Sad to see them go. I have been using Grave's plating since and they do a nice job. Not quite to Brown's level but nice.
