Front wheel alignment

Post by awineke » Mon Sep 08, 2008 9:46 am

I've got the '67 CL's engine running like buttah now, thanks to the magic formula in the FAQ. The last (?) thing before it's good to go is the front wheel. It's angled significantly left-to-right in the vertical plane (it looks like you're turning slightly left when you're going straight) and off slightly in the horizontal plane. And the entire wheel seems to be offset slightly to the speedometer gear side (is that normal? It's not missing any spacers or parts, at least according to the fiche).

The forks appear straight to the naked eye, nothing is obviously bent (except perhaps the chrome fender stay - I'm not totally sure how that's supposed to look).

But something has to be bent, right? There aren't any adjustments listed in the manual.

I could loosen the axle, put a come-along on the fork and pull it straight.... but that seems extreme.

Loosen the large chrome bolts at the top of the fork tubes and the 2 14mm head bolts on the lower triple clamp. Now push to something substantial like a corner of a wall and using the bars "bang the tire" in the direction you want the angle to change to. Tighten the bolts. ............lm
