CL300
CL300Just picked up a CL300 from Craiglist in Corvallis, OR. Thanks to listemember Dick Johnson for the lead and for pointing out that I had a CL300 not a CL77.
It's in nice shape overall, runs great. Has both plastic tank badges ("Honda 300 Dream") although one is melted. I understand that this bike was made for the domestic Japanese market. Strange as mine has a MPH speedo, not km/hr. Even has the complete tool kit. Also got a CA title issued in 1967 with the deal! I wonder if a serviceman bought it in Japan and brought it home with him. During 1967 some GIs were coming through Japan on the way home from Vietnam. CL77Very nice looking bike even with the cut front fender. Possibly a 1966 or '65 due the smooth tank and aluminum fork lowers/large brakes. I believe just about all the 305's had the Dream emblem or Honda 300. Memory fades somewhat with age. Once upon I had a new one when in Japan, but mine had the type II crank.
One carb was flooding because the needle valve was not sealing. I replaced that today and took the bike for a 20 mile ride, taking it very easy on the cracked sidewalls. It runs excellent, really gets on cam about 6000 rpm. Now to get some 19 inch "universal" tires or failing that something with some knobs.
