I just purchased a retaining nut for my CL77 and it did not fit. I had an NOS one that also wouldn't fit. Both were slightly under one inch inside diameter. Probably between 1/16 and 3/32 inches too small. The retainer on the bike is one threaded inch in outside diameter. My bike came without the retaining nut so I've been looking for one for a long time. I was told by someone that the two retaining nuts I have were from another bike. I will be happy to trade both my retaining nuts for one of the proper size for my bike. Can anyone tell me what the smaller retaining nuts fit? The part numbers for the retaining nut and the retainer are:
04164 17251-273-010 Ratchet, right air cleaner case (what I've called a retaining nut above)
04519 35141-273-000 Retainer, main switch

Re: Ignition Retaining NutHere's a related Honda 305 Forum thread: http://www.honda305.com/forums/viewtopi ... 00177451b9. As addressed below, the issue is likely with the thread pitch on the 35141-273-000 ignition switch retainer, and not the 17251-273-010 nut.
Issues related to the RH air cleaner case retaining nut (Honda calls it a "Ratchet") 17251-273-010 and ignition / main switch Retainer 35141-273-000: - Somewhere in the CL77 production line, the thread pitch was changed on the 35141-273-000 Retainer (maybe for stocking of dealer Service Parts?). So even with the correct thread diameter, later issues of this part have a different thread pitch. - Early production CL72s used a smaller diameter nut (17251-273-000) which may be what you are referring to. - The inner diameter of the CL77 17251-273-010 nut is 0.9840 in. / 25 mm. In a similar situation with my CL77, I ended up finding a salvaged used 35141-273-000 Retainer with the correct early production thread pitch, and my original retaining nut threaded-on OK. 1967 CL77 305 Scrambler
