Early CB72

What do you guys think?

Not much to go on with just one picture. The seat looks like a modern replacement and I can't really see any other detail.

I think close to 9k is a tad steep....especially with 9k miles on it.

I ain't sure what the market is like on that side of the pond,
but that's about 14,000 US dollars...
Unless Ed Moore built the bike, I can't fathom that.
Around here, a non stock runner in REALLY clean condition isn't going to go for much more than 4,000 USD

Better photos and a lower price. Red tank? Red seat?

hi G,still over priced, when you blow the pics up, there's still a lot of work to do, asked him for some other pics of under the seat rear mudguard, not had any yet.as its got a the wrong rear light on, i thinking its a later mudguard, wrong silencers, kick starter shaft worn, i dont think its worth any more than a couple of thousand.would be nice to have the early one with the single front brake on it.. alan

Hi,

Indeed, way overpriced and lot's of incorrect parts. Next to all mentioned parts it has a wrong speedo too. And an engine bolted together with allen bolts ?? In my opinion when I see that, I don't think the restoration is done seriously enough. Tacho cable is correct, but where is the aluminium front fender ? I wonder if the gas tank is correct, but I think not.

The serial number isn't that special too, I have at least one frame with a lower number then this bike, and it was sold in the Netherlands (it has the original paperwork). An electric starter was always supplied, and the early starter has a different i.d. plate, very hard to get too. The early versions did have a wiring harness with the orange and blue wires (winker), and most early European bike did have winkers.

The list of not correct and very hard to get small parts is endless.

Basicly it is a early frame with a matching early engine, probably the correct headlight shell, and correct top fork bridge (no holes to keep the speedo down). It is supplied with early shocks (aluminium covers) and original wheels. It has the correct tacho cable and the correct tacho engine cover (flat spot). And ofcourse the single front brake and correct seatpan and some other earlier mentioned original parts.

Pictures do not reveal the correct main stand and carburettor - filter boots.

Like I said, way to much money for this bike. And I don't know the state of the engine too, but like he describes it it is ready for some serious work. The early engines are prone to serious crank problems,, in fact, an early engine is prone to serious trouble anyway.

In my live I have never seen a 1961 engine in a good and healthy state. I disassembled about 12 early engines, and not one of them had a good crank, no matter if these were low or high miles. In fact, most engines had a replacement crank, so someone was in there before.

But it is an early version, and a good start for a long and painfull (for your wallet) restoration,

Try to find the early stainless mufflers (not the later versions) the aluminium front fender, correct speedo face plate and you know what I mean,

btw, to give you an idea, I'm still looking for some correct early CB1961 parts, and with still, I mean the last five years. The bike I started with was fairly complete, but" missed a few" parts, btw, anyone has a few original grips and air filter boots ?
