Newbie - CB77 - Questions (Frame number, muffler source)Newbie - CB77 - Questions (Frame number, muffler source)Hello all, I am very excited to have finally joined the forum after purchasing a CB77 from a good friend of mine. The bike has been sitting since 1989. He originally indicated that the bike was a 1965. However, I was hoping to confirm that before starting repairs. I have attached a few photos. I know they aren't the best, but hopefully they will help the experts on here help me identify as needed.
I was told the frame number is CB77 1033XXX. It is a seven digit number. The handle bars raise, they are not the flat type. A few immediate things I will need to do to the bike: 1. Replace glass on speedo. 2. Replace RS muffler 3. Clean tank out Questions: 1. What is the actual model/year of the bike? 2. Does anyone know of a source for NOS muffler? Please forgive me, as I am new to this forum and new to CB77's. I plan to make it a hobby. Please see the attached photos.
I would say this is a '66 or '67. The frame VIN'S for 65-67 are 1000001-1056432. There is a white tag on the wiring harness under the fuel tank that will have a four digit year stamped on it. The bike is typically a year younger what the tag indicates.
You can source exhaust on fleabay, David Silver Spares or Classic Honda Restoration. '66 CB77 '75 Rd125
I have not found this to be typical. I have owned several CB77s- 1962s- 1965s with the years being the year of production by the frame numbers and had a few more in my hands working on for other people. I can definitively say that on my bikes the year on the harness matched the year of production. I have also owned some Dreams and Scramblers and also found that to be true. I know there have to be some bikes that were produced with the wire harness year not matching the year of bike production but do not believe that to be typical. HT Ok, I thought that the tag was a year off for some reason. I have a titled 66 and the tag is 1965, frame VIN 1016558. Maybe someone changed it over the years. That probably explains my early speedo with the later speedo drive.
Would you all agree that the OP's bike is a 1966 or 1967? Just to get back to the op's question. '66 CB77 '75 Rd125
The frame number and pics relate to a 1966 and the odds are yours was first registered the year on the title. ......lm
