Wow, does that bring back memories. A cub 50 like that was the first bike I ever rode. An older kid in the neighborhood came home from his freshman year in college with the Cub. He sold it to my best friend's older brother that summer and he rode it for a couple of years. Then he sold it to his little brother when we were about 14 or 15. We rode that thing up and down the alley behind his house until the neighbors started to complain that it was driving them crazy. That bike went on many a camping trip allowing us to bring tents and big Coleman 2 burner stoves into places we would normally not be able to, on foot.
The cub was more like a tractor than a motorcycle. I remember one day on our way into Murphy Lake in the Adirondacks coming to a steep hill in the trail. I had most of our gear on the back of the bike. I never thought it would go up the hill with all that weight. I twisted the grip and it chugged right up the hill. You could almost count the RPM. My friend later bought a kit from Honda that converted it to a more traditional motorcycle. I think it was called a Supersport Kit. It consisted of a fiberglass gas tank that went across the step thru frame, different handlebars, a high pipe and I think a different front fender. We thought it looked so cool with that kit on it. I finally got my own bike (a Harley Topper motorscooter) and Mike ended up selling the Cub because he ended up at the doctors from it iritating his tailbone. Guess he was not built to ride a motorcycle. Always wondered where that bike is today, along with my Topper. Thanks for sharing that pic. regards, Rob cubThat was a great story snakeoil. I bought it in May of this year at an auction about 8 miles from my house. I knew the man who had it but didn't know it was going to be there. when I saw it I said to my self I had to have it. It wasn't missing much one side cover really that's about it. It was in good shape. The morning I got it I had told my wife to give me a check I was going to buy some fish after the auction...Well I didn't get the fish and my wife was hot and not about the fish hehe. A friend talked me into putting it into a show this summer in NC where I live. I was really a little worried about doing it but I got my nerve up and did it. I didn't think I would get the time of day there. well I was wrong so many people had stories just like yours it blew my mind, I had a ball. I also won my class and my first trophy in my life with it. I was so happy. I rode her yesterday she runs like a kitten. I have really enjoyed it. I got her a big brother now my superhawk man I love this bike. I'll be hungry before these leave this house.
