Too much valve tapping?

Post by Flashy65 » Sun Feb 17, 2008 10:45 pm

I have adjusted and readjusted my CP77's valves to .004, but it's still tapping a little bit. Is this a problem or just something you deal with? I have CA78 that's a little less noisy.

If the valves are adjusted correctly, the tapping is probably coming from somewhere else. The usual culprit is the piston pins get a little loose in the small ends of the rods, and cause a slight ratlle. Pretty normal, I just live with it.

Thanks for the insight. The problem is not severe, and your explanation makes sense. My CP has some miles on it, but the compression is still OK.

Did you remove all the rocker adjusters and make sure there are no flat spots and they are domed?
The cam sprocket can come loose (4 rivets) from the center and make a noise. ...................lm

I did not take the rockers the entire way out. The cam sprocket issue sounds like it could be serious!

Not the rockers.
Just the screw type adjusters.
Look at the end that touches the valve stem. ...........................lm
